Text Box: Early signs are pointing to what could be a banner year for seed companies and garden ware providers. There are a number of reason for this including, increasing produce costs, economic downturn, and reliability of safe and quality produce. Though I do not believe that any of us are going to store a barrel of cash based on our garden savings, this is one of the most popular reasons that I hear from my clients. Second, is the social phenomena know as “nesting”, in which we spend more time at home and tending to a simpler life during an economic slide. Probably the most important reason is the issue of quality and safety. (continued on p. 3)
Text Box: Almost every Winter vegetable garden article features nostalgic waxing about pouring through seed catalogs while sitting next to a warm fire. Cool season crops including Lettuce, Text Box: Spinach, Broccoli, Onions, Potatoes, Carrots, and others; need to be in the ground early, as cool turns to hot much to fast in most cases. Cloth covers and mini green houses can improve most of these crops, allowing for early planting. It is also time for the most energetic gardeners to start their Text Box: Tomato and Pepper plants indoors from seed.
